Girls on the Run of Shreveport

A nonprofit organization

We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. A physical activity-based positive youth development program, GOTR employs running as a medium for teaching essential life skills for emotional and physical well-being. Founded in 2013, GOTR Shreveport is one of over 200 GOTR councils in North America. GOTR Shreveport conducts two seasons annually where teams of girls in 3rd through 8th grade are coached throughout 10 weeks to complete a 5K. Coaches, who are trained in the delivery of the GOTR curriculum, lead each practice. Meeting twice a week after school, every practice is paired with a critical life lesson with measurable objectives for understanding and comprehension.

The season begins with helping girls gain a better understanding of who they are as individuals. Next, the girls examine the importance of teamwork and healthy relationships. Finally, the girls explore how they can positively connect with and impact the greater community. At the end of each season, the girls participate in a GOTR 5k event. This celebratory, non-competitive event is the culminating experience of the curriculum. Completing the 5k provides the girls with a tangible understanding of the confidence that comes through accomplishment as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals.

In 2018, GOTR expanded into Bossier Parish and has now served more than 500 girls in Northwest Louisiana.

Mission

We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
