Hi! My name is Sassy. That is my picture on our logo above. I'm pretty cute... and Sassy :) In fact, they call me Queen Sassy here at the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana. I was Queen in the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux 2022. However, everyone has called me Princess for many years at my home at HSNWLA. I am what they call a life-timer. I have brain trauma and I have special (I keep hearing the word imaginary, but I don't know what that means) friends that only I can see when I run and play. Every time I have left HSNLWA to try and live anywhere else, I get very sad when I leave my "imaginary" and real friends. I really have the BEST and HAPPIEST life here. But enough about me! Let me tell you what is really cool!

In my time here, I have seen 1000's and 1000's of new friends, finding their forever homes! In fact, 2022 was HSNWLA's best year to date! We had over 400 animals passing through our doors! I met them all and let them know they are about to be loved on, fed well, and treated like we are at a Bed N Breakfast! Though my volunteer moms/dads told me that we get our rooms cleaned twice a day and they only get theirs cleaned once. Also, I have a sparkly chandelier in my room. So, I am pretty sure I would rather stay here than a BnB. We have supporters who see all my friends on social media. I am told my treats come from all of these friendly people in our community!

I am also told that social media plays a huge role in my friends finding their furever homes, as well as helping the community with their pet concerns or problems. Sites such as Adopt A Pet, Facebook, Petfinder and Instagram are ways that people can see when friends are available for adoption. Without social media, my friends may stay here longer, but I know they are ready for their families.

I have so many volunteer moms and dads! I am learning how to count and I know there were about 40 in 2020. For 2022, I have had over 80 different moms and dads taking care of my every need! And they all love me as their own :)

They told me about fundraising events we do! Like our 10th annual Dog Wash and 10th annual Black Dog October. They help our rescue raise funds to grow so we can continue to save more friends! Make sure and help my friends, by helping us.....

Testimonials

Testimonial From A Volunteer
I am a current volunteer and I just love how everyone is so invested in all of these babies (young and old). We spend our free time helping these pups. The joy you get when each one is adopted. I look forward all week to the one day I volunteer, I would be there everyday if I could. The animals all get new bedding, new toys, playtime, spoiling by volunteers and treats daily. It is such a pleasure to be able to help this great organization.

They are wonderful. We adopted a husky mix puppy from them on Oct. 31. They stayed late just for us because we were traveling a long distance to get him. They truly care about the well being of these animals. Unfortunately our puppy came down with a case of kennel cough that we noticed a few days after bringing him home. The HSNWLA was great about taking care of all vet and medical fees for us! We are so happy with our puppy and with the volunteers at HSNWLA!

Everyone was so helpful. From the time our application was submitted to the time we were able to take our babies home they kept us informed every step of the way on what was happening. Thank you so much.

Amazing organization that truly helps the animals they care for. I adopted a puppy from them 7 years ago and she is still one of my best friends. She goes everywhere she can with me. My son just adopted a puppy from them and he is awesome.

I have been looking to rescue and fell in love with Pax over social media and just had to adopt him and give him the furrrever home he deserved:). I live in Georgia and the volunteers made it the seamless easiest thing to do....they were also very quick to respond and made the whole process a delight:) I am so thankful and so is my family that they allowed us to take home and take care of our new baby boy Pax. I can't express enough the gratitude for everything and how well taken care of these animals are and how loving and wonderful the volunteers are. Just can't express it enough!!!+ PLEASE ADOPT AND SAVE SOME LIVES!!!!!

This is a fabulous organization! The volunteers are fantastic and work from the heart. The animals are 'tucked in' each night with great love and a treat.
I adopted a beautiful 7 year old pup and she is a total joy to the family.
Thank you to everyone at HSNWLA!

Awesome experience adopting our puppy! Even after we got her home and she started not feeling well they had us take her to the emergency vet and covered the cost. They also followed up to be sure she was doing well afterwards. Courtney was amazing! Highly recommend checking out the Humane Society when looking for a new pet.
