$25,000 Goal

The Krewe of Barkus & Meoux is proud to help support our community and animal rescues in Northwest Louisiana.

In August of 1999, the Krewe was officially formed as a non-profit organization to benefit abused, neglected, and homeless animals.  Today, we also promote pet adoptions, pet health, and responsible pet ownership.

The Krewe provided $11,000 in monetary support to the community in 2022 via grants, donations, and our community animal support programs.  Grants and donations are given to local rescues and shelters, free vaccine clinics are held, and we partner with local organizations and events to raise awareness for responsible pet ownership.  Some of the Krewe programs are the FERAL CAT ASSISTANCE program, EMERGENCY ANIMAL ASSISTANCE program, and LOW-INCOME ASSISTANCE SPAY OR NEUTER program.

*FERAL CAT ASSISTANCE program
Promotes the prevention of disease and control of overpopulation of feral cat colonies, assists colony caregivers with the veterinary costs associated with spay/neuter and necessary vaccinations
Healthy feral cat populations help with local pest control for the communities in which they live.

*EMERGENCY ANIMAL ASSISTANCE program
Assists with emergency and unexpected veterinary costs of restoring the health and wellbeing of a pet; requests and supporting documentation are reviewed on a case-by-case basis

*LOW-INCOME ASSISTANCE SPAY OR NEUTER program
Assists lower income pet owners with the veterinary costs associated with spay/neuter of their pets

However, there are always other cases that arise that we support based on the need for the requirement.

We host a family-friendly pet parade during the Mardi Gras season that has attracted numbers of 3,000 and a fun color run, the Fast and the Furriest, in the beginning of the year.

Testimonials

1) The Krewe of Barkus & Meoux has been instrumental in helping the feral cat population of Caddo and Bossier parishes. It began its support with Sheri's TNR and has continued to support the work of SB Community Cat Assistance Project with help for spay neuter costs and supplies, traps, and carriers. Without the support of this wonderful organization, we could not have financed the almost 2,500 cats that we have trapped for spays and neuters. Thank you so much for the continued help. The impact on the feral cat population and the community as a whole is phenomenal.

2) Our Sparky was King of the 2018 Parade, but he died in April 2018. The outpouring of emotional support from KBM, even though at the time we were not members, was incredible. In July, with the help of Krewe member, Jean Williams Johnson, we rescued Trooper. With all of this tremendous support, that encouraged us to join KBM.  KBM's support for spay/neuter programs, helping abused and neglected animals, and helping retired military dogs have made us very happy we joined while making many new friends.

The Krewe of Barkus and Meoux has graciously helped Rockers Rescue on a couple of occasions. We have been low on donations due to some extreme medical cases at times. We once had an injured kitten we rescued that ended up needing an amputation then an emergency surgery at the ER clinic plus lots of vet stays. We were also dealing with our supply room flooding and other rescue expenses. The Krewe granted us some donations to help us. We were so thankful to the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux for helping us during those times! It is so great seeing an organization that aids other organizations in the community. - Rockers Rescue Team
