Geaux 4 Kids, Inc. is a Louisiana statewide organization meeting the immediate needs of abused or neglected children when they are placed into the protective custody of foster care through no fault of their own. Over 6000 children were in the Louisiana foster care system in 2020.
Founder and Executive Director KC Kilpatrick Baird discovered a gap in services when she became a foster parent to two in 2013. It was at that moment that she discovered exactly how stressful the initial 24-48 hours of receiving children into foster care is and how impossible it is to adequately prepare for it, since these children can be any age and arrive at any time of day or night.
A Geaux Bag helps both child and foster parent during the emergency transition. Geaux Bags are filled with essential clothing, toiletries, and a comfort item to make that first night easier. By having immediate access to the essentials, foster parents can focus on the emotional needs of the child. We have made 16,300 Geaux Bags since our inception in 2013!
