Catholic Charities of North Louisiana was founded in 2010 by Bishop Michael Duca to serve the poor and vulnerable by meeting them where they are, providing education and connecting them to a community of resources. Each year, we serve more than 2,600 people across 16 parishes, with satellite offices in Monroe and Lake Providence. Our programs are in three main areas: Financial Education and Assistance; Immigration Legal Services; and Family Stability.
Our financial education programs focus on helping people with limited income manage their budget, improve their credit, and buy their first home. We have recently begun expanding our educational offerings by offering one-on-one financial counseling through the Financial Empowerment Center, a partnership with the City of Shreveport. Our Emergency Assistance program distributes over $150,000 in rent and utility assistance each year, helping families remain housed with the utilities connected.
Catholic Charities is the only organization in North Louisiana that offers immigration legal assistance at low- or no-cost. We assist those who are seeking work permits, DACA renewals or permanent residency and help hopeful U.S. citizens make their dream a reality.
Our family stability programs help those seeking stability access state benefits to help them as they work towards independence. We also assists caregivers of children ages 0-4 through Gabriel’s Closet. Gabriel’s Closet is a parenting program that combines education with resources. Caregivers attend classes on subjects related to early childhood and earn merits through program participation to shop in a resource closet stocked with everything one could need for a child aged 0-4.
Catholic Charities serves the community with the belief that education and temporary assistance lead to long-term independence. Over 15 years, we have provided over $2.15 million in rent and utility assistance, helped thousands of parents navigate parenthood and have access to diapers, and celebrated with hundreds as they became US citizens or permanent residents.
