Companions of CPAS exists for one reason: to give the dogs at Caddo Parish Animal Services the second chance they might not get otherwise. Caddo Parish Animal Services is an open-intake shelter, where more than 50% of dogs can be euthanized simply due to lack of space. It’s a heartbreaking reality—but it’s exactly why we’re here.

We’re not here to compete with other rescues or claim animals as our own. We’re here to step in where it matters most—giving dogs the opportunity they wouldn’t have without support. We are 100% volunteer-based, with no paid staff—meaning every single dollar goes directly toward helping the animals who need it most.

Our mission comes to life in two powerful ways:

• Funding critical medical care
When a dog needs surgery, treatment, or urgent care, we step in and say yes. One of the most common—and most urgent—needs we fund is treatment for heartworm-positive dogs. Heartworm treatment is expensive, and many rescues are unable to take these dogs on because of the cost or medical restrictions. Without treatment, their chances of leaving the shelter are incredibly low. But it’s not just rescues we support. We also help private adopters and local families say yes to the dog they’ve fallen in love with by covering heartworm treatment. By removing that financial barrier, we turn “I wish I could” into welcome home. That’s one more dog out of the shelter—and into a forever family.

• Transporting dogs to no-kill rescues up north
When local options are limited, we help move dogs to areas with higher adoption demand—giving them the visibility and chance they deserve. Because sometimes, the only thing standing between a dog and a future… is access. Every dollar you give directly fuels these lifesaving efforts. It gives dogs time, care, and a real shot at making it out. We believe every dog is worth the investment- Worth the effort. Worth the chance.
