Main Street Homer Invites Community to Invest in Downtown Homer Through 2026 Give for Good Campaign

In the heart of Claiborne Parish, downtown Homer continues to tell a story of resilience, reinvention, and community pride. Through the work of Main Street Homer, that story is still being written—and the public is invited to help shape its next chapter by donating during the 2026 Give for Good campaign from April 21st through May 5th.

Main Street Homer’s mission is clear: to revitalize Homer through economic development, historic and cultural preservation, and the advancement of the arts.
This mission has guided more than a decade of progress in downtown, transforming vacant buildings into businesses, creating public gathering spaces, and restoring historic structures that define the community’s identity.

Since becoming a designated Main Street community in 2014, Homer has embraced a nationally recognized approach to revitalization—one that aligns people, projects, and resources to strengthen local economies and improve quality of life.

From the development of Alabama Kinnebrew Park to the rehabilitation of thirteen historic buildings, Main Street Homer has demonstrated that small-town investment creates big results. These efforts have helped bring new businesses to downtown and reestablish Homer as a destination for residents and visitors alike.

Now, the organization is looking ahead—and asking for community support to continue that momentum by making a donation today.

Investing in the Future of Downtown Homer

Funds raised through the 2026 Give for Good campaign will directly support ongoing and upcoming economic development initiatives, including:

  • Implementation of a downtown traffic safety project funded through the Thriving Communities Grant
  • Continued revitalization of historic downtown buildings through the Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Subgrant Program (HRSP)
  • Completion of design work for a new Gateway Park on the Boom or Bust Byway downtown entrance, funded through a Main Street Technical Assistance Grant
  • Finalizing the revitalization of the Pan American Filling Station into a Farmers and Makers Market and Store.

These projects are part of a broader transformation strategy focused on strengthening downtown Homer’s economy, enhancing public spaces, and preserving its historic character.

 More Than Buildings—Building Community

Main Street Homer’s work goes beyond construction and restoration. It is about helping create a place where people want to live, work, and invest.

The Main Street Approach emphasizes community-driven revitalization—bringing together volunteers, business owners, local government, and residents to shape a shared vision for the future.

“This work is about economic opportunity,” said Main Street Homer President Jimmy Hand. “Every dollar raised stays in Homer—supporting local contractors, local businesses, and local jobs.”

How Give for Good Works

Give for Good, hosted by the Louisiana Community Foundation, is an online giving event that connects donors with nonprofit organizations across North Louisiana. Donations made during the event can be amplified through matching funds and prize incentives, maximizing the impact of every contribution.

For Main Street Homer, Give for Good is one of the most important annual opportunities to secure funding for projects that might otherwise not be possible. In fact, funds raised from the Give for Good campaign provide one fourth of Main Street Homer’s operating budget.

A Call to Action

As Homer continues its transformation, community support remains the driving force behind its success.

Whether through a small donation, volunteer effort, or simply spreading the word, every contribution helps move downtown Homer forward.

Because revitalizing a town doesn’t happen overnight—but together, it happens.
