Supporting Military Families for over 15 years.
The Northwest Louisiana Military Support Foundation (NWLA MSF) is dedicated to supporting military families and creating awareness the our community about their sacrifices, challenges, and achievements.
Every dollar you give goes directly back to the military families who call Shreveport-Bossier home.
Made up of volunteers, guided by the Bossier Chamber of Commerce Military Liaison, we work year-round to make sure service members, spouses, and their children feel seen, supported, and genuinely welcomed in our community.
Here is what your generosity makes possible.
Purple Up! and Month of the Military Child
April belongs to military kids — some of the most resilient young people you will ever meet. They change schools, leave friends behind, and start over, over and over again, without complaint. We celebrate them through parish-wide contests, Purple Star School club support, and community-wide recognition. Each school year, we provide monthly financial contributions to Purple Star clubs so students have the resources to host events, welcome new classmates, and build a sense of belonging that follows them wherever they go. (goal: $500 light the bridge purple April 2027)
Military Spouse Appreciation
Behind every service member is a spouse who is rebuilding a life in a new place — new city, new job search, new everything. We celebrate military spouses in our community and work to make Shreveport-Bossier a place where they can find connection, opportunity, and a community that shows up for them. (goal: $1,500 Spouse Appreciation Social, May 2026)
The THRIVE Guide
One centralized, easy-to-use resource guide connecting service members and their families to everything they need — from healthcare to housing to community programs — right when they need it most. Read it here: https://business.bossierchamber.com/military (goal: $1,000 marketing cost to advertise and promote guide to families and create a new website, ongoing)
The Job and Resource Fair
Held each spring, this two-day event is open to military members, veterans, spouses, and transitioning service members. Day one focuses on career readiness — resume tips, interview coaching, and professional guidance. Day two is a full job fair featuring over 1,000 open positions. It is one of the most practical things we do, and the impact is real. (goal: $500 marketing and costs to provide the regions largest Veteran Job Fair in NWLA, March 2027 )
The Holiday Cookie Drive
No one should feel forgotten during the holidays, especially those who are far from family and still showing up to serve. In 2024, the Chamber delivered 7,000 cookies to more than 1,000 service members at Barksdale AFB, reserve units, MEPS, and Camp Minden. It is a small gesture with a big heart, made possible by local businesses, volunteers, and a community that wants to say thank you. (goal: $500, December 2026)
Military May
Every May, we spend the entire month honoring the men and women of every branch of service. Through events, initiatives, and community-wide recognition, we make sure our military community knows how much they mean to us. (goal: $1,000, Event TBD, May 2026)
When it matters most, we show up.
When last year's government shutdown left thousands of reservists without pay, we did not wait to be asked. We recognized the need and we acted. That is the kind of community we are committed to being — one that moves quickly when military families need support they did not see coming. Extra funding ensures we can keep doing exactly that, whatever form the next need takes.
