$20,000 Goal

Pet Savers was founded by Linda Shemwell as a non-profit 19 years ago and is a large NO-KILL shelter in the Shreveport area, housing 65 dogs and 20 cats. The shelter is located at 4380 Noyes Drive and is open by appointment 7 days a week from 12pm to 4pm(Major holidays excluded) Due to the current situation we are no longer allowing casual visits. If you are interested in adopting a dog or cat you can view them on our website then submit an application via email to petsavers@petsaversshreveport.org. If the application is approved an appointment time will be scheduled for you to meet the dog or cat.

Normally we take in 20 dogs each month.

We take in:
... pets from families where the owner has died or gone to a nursing home.
... pets that have been abandoned
... pets left at truck stops
... pets from owners who have lost their homes
... strays who simply have no owner

We have some dogs that have been with us for 12 years, through no fault of their own.

One thing that sets us apart is a telephone! Our land line has an informational voice mail message that directs callers to several phone volunteers who will take calls or call back. Although we will not always have the answer you want, we try to help in some way...by offering suggestions, sending a list of other rescues, and trying to help re-home your pet.

Before adoption, all of our dogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, and vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper. Our cats are spayed/neutered, tested and vaccinated as well.

Some are cute and small, some are big and goofy, some are young, some are old, some are house-trained. Some get returned due to unrealistic expectations from owners. We love and care for them all.

We have an executive director who does not receive a salary, plus small dedicated staff who clean and feed and love the animals as their own, as well as a great group of volunteers.

Although we remain debt-free, our monthly expenses can be as much as $15,000 and our vet and food bills are staggering, even with rescue discounts. We receive a discount from our veterinarian partners for their services but it is only a discount and with the number of animals we have, the bills add up. Because we have a physical facility, we have maintenance, repairs, electric, and plumbing bills, though the facility was paid for long ago. We rely on YOUR donations, our adoption fees, and the occasional grant to stay afloat.

Please support Pet Savers by giving online on the day of Give for Good or schedule a donation for May 3rd.
