In 2021, Campti Community Development Center (CDC) collaborated with International Paper, State of LA Department of Education Nutrition Support Program, Natchitoches Parish School Board, United Way,, Give for Good and the Office of Community Services to provide nutritious meals and snacks to youth that reside or attend school in the Town of Campti. Studies show that students who are hungry perform lower on tests than those who are provided a nutritious meal. It is more difficult to concentrate when distracted by hunger pangs. Our goals and objectives were as follows:
Goal 1: To provide hot nutritious meals to children ages 2-18 years of age and to promote the development of good eating habits and nutrition education.
Objectives:
(1). One hundred percent (100%) of the children served received the four main food components required as a healthy meal as indicated by USDA.
(2). One hundred percent (100%) of the children in the program didn't go to bed hungry.
(3). Ninety-five percent (95%) of the children enrolled participated in structured activities.
Goal 2: Targeted at-risk, underserved youth to reduce juvenile delinquency, improve academic performance and school attendance, and reduce school drop-out rates.
Objectives:
1. One hundred percent (100%) of youth enrolled were exposed to positive mentors.
2. Seventy-five percent or more (75 %+) of the enrolled students' grades improved as evident by parent's report or by school's progress reports.
3. Eighty percent (80%) of the enrolled students remained in school.
Although COVID-19 appeared in March of 2020, CCDC was able to provide "Grab and Go' meals to 170 children. This program was measured by the number of student enrollment forms and the number of meals picked up by parents and/or grandparents.
