Youth Outreach Services/ Jewell House

A nonprofit organization

Youth Outreach Services opened Jewell House, a 24 hour transitional and emergency shelter, in 2008 with a vision to reach young ladies. Since 2008 we have served over 100 young ladies. Jewell House provides a structured, supportive and nurturing environment to females ages 13-21, that have run-away from home, been abused and neglected. In addition to being a safe haven, Jewell House provides educational and vocational services, homework assistance, counseling, community and economic development activities.

Jewell House's philosophy is that every individual is valuable and each has the capacity to grow, develop and achieve to a greater degree than currently exist.

Our young ladies are more precious than rubies, and shine brighter than diamonds: and all the things thou can desire are not be compared unto our girls at Jewell House.

Jewell House has a 98% high school graduation rate, and 70% of those young ladies entered college or vocational schools. Jewell House encourages all residents to attend school regularly and pursue their career goals.

Testimonials

My mother was incarnated and my dad is deceased. I dreamed of going to the Army to escape all the turmoil in my life, at the time this was escape. I came to Jewell House because my aunt that I was living with was moving out of state, and I couldn't go. As I toured the house with my counselor, I could feel the love and compassion from the other girls and staff. I thought that despite our differences we are the same, because nobody wanted us. I was able to keep going to my same school, and my life turned around just like that. I was shown love by so many of the people at Jewell House. Now I am married, and doing well.

When I came to Jewell House I was 15 years old. I had just had a baby and we were living in an abandoned house. I had run away from an abusive home, and had no where to go. Jewell House has become my home. The staff has been a blessing to me, they make sure that all my needs are meet.

My mother died when I was 10 years old, which left me with a void. I missed having a mother to teach me things that mothers teach. But when I came to Jewell House I gained several mother figures. The staff at Jewell House was so caring. They kept me focused, and encouraged me when I started to go in the wrong direction. Now that I have my own daughter, I am able to raise her using things that Jewell House taught me. I am so blessed that I had the opportunity to live at Jewell House. I appreciate Jewell House much more now that I am on my own, I can truly say that Jewell House changed my life for the better.
