Nonprofit FAQs

What is required for organizations to participate? Is there a fee?

There is no fee for your organization to participate. However, all organization must register to participate. Give For Good 2025 nonprofit registration opens November 1, 2024 and closes December 6, 2024. Once approved, you should prepare to devote time and energy to promoting Give For Good among your donors and social networks. The Community Foundation will provide resources to participating organizations that will help you build and market your profile.

How much of the donations go to my organization?

Your organization will receive approximately 94.7% of donations received and designated for your organization as well as the organization’s portion of the Lagniappe Fund and/or prize money (as calculated by CFNLA). There will be a 2.8% Mightycause (online giving platform) transaction fee to cover platform and operational costs for Mightycause and an approximate 2.5% + $0.30 credit card processing fee to cover transaction costs and disbursement processing by the Mightycause Charitable Foundation. Community Foundation of North Louisiana works diligently to minimize the fees for this event and does not receive any proceeds from Give For Good. Donors may also elect to cover the fee.

When can I make updates to my organization page?

Admins of an organization can make updates to their organization page. Registered organizations should make sure to complete your organization's to-do list before giving opens. You can make changes to your organization's profile at any time, but it is recommended that you complete your profile and to-do list before giving starts.

How are the Lagniappe Fund and prizes structured?

Lagniappe Fund: Organizations raising a minimum of $500 during Give for Good are eligible to receive Lagniappe Fund dollars. The Lagniappe Fund is not a dollar-for-dollar match. The amount each organization receives from the Lagniappe Fund will be based on the percentage of total funds raised on the day of the event. For example, if an organization raises 1% of the total raised on Give for Good Day, it will receive 1% of the Lagniappe Fund. Individual donations will qualify for a match up to a $10,000 limit to prevent substantial donations from skewing the allocation of the Lagniappe Fund.

Prizes: Many prizes are split into three divisions, separating "large," "medium," and "small" organizations. The size of an organization is self-reported based on budget size. Prizes will be awarded in three different categories:

>> Pre-event:

Pre-event prizes will be announced as they become available. Participating organizations will be notified of pre-event prize opportunities via email. Examples include drawings for attending training, early registration, social media contests, and more.

>> Gives Day:

One $500 prize will be awarded each hour during the 24-hour Give for Good event. Prizes will be a mix of random drawings (Golden Tickets) and participation-based prizes (i.e. most donors in an hour or the first donation of the day). A full list of prizes will be made available prior to Give for Good.

>> Post Event:

  • Most Donors for Large Org: First, Second and Third place

  • Most Donors for Medium Org: First, Second and Third place

  • Most Donors for Small Org: First, Second and Third place

  • Most Improved

  • Notable Newcomer

Prize Limits: *An organization is eligible to receive one prize in both the pre-event and gives day categories. An additional prize may be awarded in the post-event category after the totals are calculated.

Can my organization set up a match during Give for Good?

Yes! Please review this support article to learn more about matching grants and how to set up a match for your organization during the event.

Can my organization raise funds for a specific program?

While your organization's description can include all of the programs and services you offer, donors cannot designate or restrict their donations to a particular program. Organizations may not market that donations will be used for a restricted purpose.

Can my organization host a special event?

Yes! We encourage you to plan an event, partner with other participating nonprofits, or connect with a local business to raise awareness about Give For Good. If you do host an event, you must notify the Community Foundation by the event deadline AND provide a certificate of insurance showing at least $1 million in coverage and naming the Community Foundation as an additional insured.

Can we encourage donations by giving away prizes or free gifts?

No. You cannot offer a premium for gifts made during Give For Good. Donors' gifts cannot pay for memberships, dinners, or any other activity that provides benefits to the donor. The gift cannot support a political campaign, fulfill a pledge, pay for raffle tickets, or pay for personal expenses incurred by a relative, including tuition.

Why can donors not receive benefits for their donations?

All gifts made through Give for Good are 100% tax-deductible and receipts/letters for these deductions are issued immediately. Pursuant to IRS requirements, the value of any benefit received is not tax deductible. CFNLA will not issue receipts including the value of any benefit received. Thus, nonprofits are not allowed to offer benefits for any funds received through Give For Good.

When will my organization receive its Give For Good donations?

Donations received during the event period will be disbursed to your organization by the Mightycause Charitable Foundation. Nonprofits with EFT set up can expect to receive their donations on the:

  • 10th of the month, for donations made from the 16th of the previous month through the last day of the previous month.

  • 25th of the month, for donations made from the 1st through the 15th of that same month.

If you do not plan on setting up EFT, please make sure to re-verify your legal mailing address for checks. Please note, check disbursements have a $5 service fee so we highly encourage setting up EFT for your organization. Checks are disbursed on the tenth of the month for online gifts received during the prior month.

Your organization will receive Lagniappe funds, and prize money in a separate disbursement from CLFNLA after the verification period (up to 30 days) and final accounting for Give For Good day has been made (typically early to mid-June). All disbursements will be made by ACH or EFT.

What payment methods are available?

Donations must me made through the giveforgoodnla.org site - online payment methods available on the site during the event include credit/debit, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Paypal/Venmo, ACH. For donations over $50, the website offers donors the option to submit payment through their bank account (ACH) through Plaid. This could save them money on transaction fees. For donors who give via their bank account, credit card processing fees will be replaced by a 1% transaction fee, plus a $1.50 fixed fee per transaction (total ACH processing fees will be capped at $5.00). Platform fee will still apply.

What if the amount my nonprofit expected based on the initial Give For Good results does not match the final disbursement?

Although each organization will be able to view donations in real-time, CFNLA must complete a post Give for Good reconciliation. While gifts are considered nonrefundable, a donation can be revoked for a variety of reasons from the time of receipt to the time of disbursement. Therefore, donation “reports” are not considered final until the organization receives its distribution from CFNLA.

Does my organization need to send letters to donors for their tax deductions?

No, do NOT send a tax acknowledgment letter to your donors. Each online donor will automatically receive an email confirming the gift receipt from Mightycause during the event. You can add a thank you message to this automatic receipt - see how here! CFNLA encourages you to acknowledge donations by following up with donors to thank them and share how their contribution will serve our community and help achieve your mission.

Will my organization receive donor information for acknowledgments?

Yes. You will have access to donor information during and after the event unless the donor chooses to be anonymous. We also encourage you to reach out to your donors after the event and thank them for supporting your organization.
