River Cities Jubilee Chorus

The River Cities Jubilee Chorus is the local chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, an international organization of over 23,000 men and women who sing together. Our chapter was started in 1948 and chartered with the Society in 1949. This year, 2019, marks seventy years of our group singing and performing in our community. This makes us one of the oldest, if not THE oldest continually operating performing arts organizations in our area.

As our mission statement says, we want to make our community a better place through singing. We think singing is good for the singer and good for the listener. We love to sing and we want to encourage others to sing as well. We love to sing barbershop music though that's not the only style we sing and we encourage others to sing what they like as well.

SING OUT! We are especially interested in encouraging young people to sing and we support choral organizations in our schools and other groups as well. One of our most enjoyable and successful programs has been the SING OUT! Held every other year at the Strand Theatre, this event invites local youth choral groups from middle schools through high school to come and perform on stage at the Strand. There is no entry fee to the groups, just come and sing on stage at the Strand. As a part of this event, we give prize money to every group that appears. In the two times we've held this event, we've donated over $6000 to these groups which they can use for any purpose they see fit---buy music, uniforms, help with travel expenses, have a pizza party for the choir--whatever they think helps them the most. We are looking forward to holding this event in 2020. Your donations to Give for Good will help us fund this event in 2020.

Come Sing With Us---If you like to sing, you are always welcome to join us. We meet on Monday nights at 7 PM in the choir room at First Baptist Church in Shreveport. We are always looking for more men who like to sing. Come and check out the fun we have doing what we like to do best---singing in four part harmony. Don't read music? Don't worry about it.
