"The Shreveport Symphony reflects and embraces our community not only by presenting a broad range of performances, but also by collaborating with partner organizations like the opera, ballet, Robinson Film Center and ArtSpace. As a catalyst for civic engagement, we are also committed to working through the schools to help our young people connect with their innate creativity, helping them not only to appreciate the arts, but to develop skills essential to success in the innovation economy. Our vision is a future in which the symphony plays an ever-more vibrant and central role in our community's cultural life. I invite you to join thousands of your neighbors and friends in supporting this community treasure." -Michael Butterman, Music Director
"In addition to their artistry on the performance stage, the musicians of the Shreveport Symphony continue to make important contributions to the quality of life for the people of the Ark-La-Tex. They regularly perform for all types of community events, and religious services. Their educational efforts include school concerts, clinics, and private teaching. The Shreveport/Bossier City area owes a debt of gratitude to the SSO for making this tremendous resource possible." -Dr. Rick Rowell , Principal Trumpet & Orchestra Committee Chair
"Studies have shown that there are strong correlations between music and academics. So here at Kerr, we are excited to have the opportunity to strengthen that correlation with the support of Shreveport Symphony. Giving exposure to our students with multiple in-house visits, one field trip to the symphony and daily musical lessons through Music in the morning, all of which are sponsored by the Shreveport Symphony is highly beneficial." - Janet Doughty, Principal, R. V. Kerr Elementary on their participation in our Partnership Programs
"I was very glad to have the woodwind quintet visit us today. They worked with each instrument individually and helped each of us with our music. But they also helped everyone when we played together. I very much enjoyed having a professional of the same instrument as me, to get advice from and speak to. I think that [I] and the rest of my bandmates benefited from and enjoyed their visit." - Aubrey, 10th grade
"My favorite part of the concert was when the Orchestra played "Romeo & Juilet". My favorite instrument was the French Horn. I was surprised by how many instruments were in the Symphony. I learned how to make music in my my very own home. I am glad I went to see the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra" -4th Grade Student on our Annual Discovery Concerts
"I think you are the best symphony members I ever met. Thank you for coming to our school...I had a great time. [Do you remember me the boy in the back?]"
