We are seeking donations to sponsor up to 40 children from area summer programs to attend a fresh food cooking class led by Chef Hardette Harris of Us Up North. The class will follow a workshop with a youth farmer who will be teaching a gardening and vermiculture (worm gardening) workshop at the Shreveport Green Urban Farm in downtown Shreveport. We find it much easier to convince children to eat fresh veggies if they (1) grow them themsevles and (2) know how to prepare them. The cooking class will include produce from the garden and will be appropriate to the ages of the youth in attendance.
