Every day in our region, families walk through the doors of The Salvation Army carrying stories of struggle, strength, and hope. Some arrive after losing a job. Some are parents trying to shield their children from the weight of hardship. Others come simply because they have nowhere else to go.
And every day, The Salvation Army becomes a lifeline.
This is the story of one family—but it reflects hundreds more across our community.
A mother and her two young children came to us after escaping an unsafe living situation. They had nothing but a small backpack of clothes. The children were scared, tired, and unsure of what came next. Their mom was doing everything she could to stay strong, but the fear in her voice was unmistakable.
Within minutes, our team welcomed them with a warm meal, a safe bed, clean clothes, and compassionate support. Over the next few weeks, the kids began participating in our youth programs—drawing pictures, playing games, and rediscovering what it means to just be kids. Their mom began working with our case managers to rebuild her stability, regain confidence, and plan for a brighter path forward.
Today, the family is safe, healing, and moving toward independence.
